Head of police of Makhachkala dismissed

Rajip Ashikov, the head of the GUVD (City Interior Department) of Makhachkala, has been officially removed from office, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learned from a source from the investigatory bodies of Dagestan.

On March 22, men in masks detained four security guards of Rajip Ashikov, who later complained that they were beaten during interrogation. On the same day, power agents searched Ashikov's house.

The information about Ashikov's dismissal was confirmed by the lawyer Musa Suslanov. "Ashikov's advocates were told today about it by employees of the Dagestani police, without explaining the reasons for the dismissal," told the "Caucasian Knot" Suslanov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Ashikov himself is away from Dagestan on his leave for health reasons. "He continues taking his treatment. Officially, nobody had invited him for questioning; therefore, he has no grounds to interrupt his treatment," said Suslanov.
