In Tbilisi Fund "Revival" brings girls in wedding dresses out to streets, pointing to demographic problems in Georgia

On March 14, Tbilisi hosted an action "Happy Georgia", aimed at improving the demographic situation. Forty girls dressed in wedding gowns, marched along the central Rustaveli Avenue.

Tamar Chiburdanidze, an activist of the Fund "Revival" and the organizer of the action, believes that Georgia will flourish if the country has more children.

"Our fund was established on March 3 this year; in Georgia it is the holiday – the Mother's Day. Its aim is to prevent a demographic catastrophe in Georgia. According to the UN, by 2050 Georgia will approach this sort of catastrophe, as the population will decrease by 1,160,000 people. The way out of this situation is through as many weddings as possible, strong families and a lot of kids," Ms Chiburdanidze said in her interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Giorgi Dzhadzhanidze, the author of the idea of the action, notes that he had planned the action long ago: "We have to get married and give birth to children; it is necessary for us and for our country."

Lika Akhubadze, a 14-year-old model and a participant of the action, said that for her it was a very interesting experience. "We need to remind people of the family and children. I'm not married, but I dream to have three children," said the girl.
