Mukhamed Khabilov: I jumped from the third floor of the MIA in fear of torture

Mukhamed Khabilov, a resident of the city of Terek, Kabardino-Balkaria, said that he jumped out of the window of the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) not because of his suicidal moods or fear of going to jail, but after policemen threatened to torture him.

Mukhamed Khabilov is for 12 days at the Republic's Hospital in Nalchik. Doctors say that he will stay in bed for at least another two months.

"Most of all I now suffer from pain in my spine and pelvis. I can't walk, sit or stand without help; my wife carries me on a gurney. It also pains me to talk," told the "Caucasian Knot" Mukhamed Khabilov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, on December 3, 2012, he and his friend Khasanbi Shogenov got into a car accident. The Lesken District Court ruled on the accident that Khabilov should pay a fine.

On February 25, he received an SMS-message from Shogenov that Mukhamed was searched by MIA agents about the accident. Khabilovov was surprised, because the judgment had already been rendered and he had paid the fine. Nevertheless, he wrote to the SMS-number that left his friend, asking to call to his mobile phone. MIA agents called back and asked where he was; and then they came and took him to the station.

According to his version, one of the policemen suggested that he wrote a confession by threatening to be raped and that some "false victim" would be found. Threats were also pronounced by another policeman, who came into the office, said Khabilov.

"I was afraid that they would now force me to sign everything. I asked the policeman to take me to the toilet. When we were approaching the door of the toilet, I saw an open window. My decision came quickly: I ran up to it and jumped out of the window," said Mukhamed Khabilov.

He fears that MIA agents can now, in order to evade responsibility, fabricate a criminal case against him or to resort to another way of revenge.
