An action of protest of workers of "Naiyrit" plant is going on near the residence of the President of Armenia

About one thousand workers of "Naiyrit" chemical plant in Yerevan gathered near the residence of the President of Armenia demanding to pay off wage arrears for the last 11 months.

The action of protest of workers of "Naiyrit" chemical plant started this morning. They gathered near the gates of the enterprise and organized a procession towards the President's Palace.

According to the workers of "Naiyrit", only part of the plant, i.e. the workshop producing nitrogen and oxygen gas is currently functioning. "70 people work at the plant at the moment, the rest three thousand workers are standing idle", a representative of Press Service of the chemical plant informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The plant's wage arrears to each of us exceeds one million drams (about 2,5 thousand dollars), so, we can all become millionaires. We came here to stand upon our rights. Let them pay us all the debts, particularly, taking into consideration that the New Year is coming soon", worker of the enterprise Arutiun S. declared.

On listening to the workers' demands representatives of the President's Residence and the Ministry of Energy of Armenia promised to reestablish work of the plant till December, 20, and "pay salary for three months to the workers of "Naiyrit" one of these days".

A three-months back pay will not solve the problem, worker of the enterprise Mariam D. considers. "We gathered here because we have not been getting our wages 11 months. We demand to pay us our wages. Let them settle the question of compensation for six months, at least. The management of the enterprise promised to pay us our wages for one month after December, 15, but is won't suit us", she said.

Several persons from among the protesters are expected to be invited to the President's Palace for negotiation in the nearest future. Head of the state Serzh Sargsyan is currently on an official visit in Lebanon.
