Refugees returned to a dwelling center in Tskhinvali restored after showers

The refugees from Georgia whose dwellings were flooded as a result of showers that passed in Tskhinvali in the beginning of November returned to their collective dwelling center in the suburbs of the town, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent reports.

A two-storey house earlier used for procurement of grain for a bakery factory was re-equipped as a dwelling for refugees after the war of August, 2008. The showers became an obstacle for replacement of dilapidated roofing, as a result the refugees’ rooms were flooded down to the first floor and the injured people themselves were temporarily resettled to the hotel of the capital.

The tenants of the collective center reported that the builders laid the roofing but their property in the house was damaged and it became just unbearable to live there.

“The building is old. Moving here everyone who could did a face-lift of the house damaged by rains by themselves”, refugee Manana Djioeva says.

The refugees appealed to the Government asking to allot dwellings to them.

“For already 20 years we have been wandering over poky little rooms allotted by the state. We stayed on the waiting lists to get the keys to those rooms. We have been going through this awful red tape all our conscious lives after the war. We have seen all kinds of horrors and destitution. Will we never get keys to our own houses?”, women tenants of the center said to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

Meanwhile, complete overhaul of a house of 30 flats was accomplished in the suburbs of Tskhinvali. The place is new, not much lived in but families having many children already got dwellings there. The micro-district was given the name of “Solnechny” (“Sunny”).

In the Migration Committee the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent was told that a letter describing the dwelling problem was sent to President of the republic Leonid Tibilov on November, 14.

“A letter on the problem of dwellings for the refugees was sent to the top authorities of the republic. We hope to get information in the answer on whether dwellings in “Solnechny” micro-district will be allotted and if yes then how many refugees will be provided with dwellings”, officials of the Committee explained.
