On November 12-18, twenty persons fell victim to conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week from November 12 to 18, 2012, at least 20 people suffered from the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus; of them, 12 people perished and eight others were wounded. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes nine alleged members of illegal armed formations (IAFs): four in Dagestan and five in Kabardino-Balkaria, two power agents – one in Ingushetia and Dagestan each, and one civilian – in Dagestan.

Seven power agents and law enforcers were wounded – an investigator in Ingushetia, and officer of the Defence Ministry in Dagestan, a soldier in Chechnya and four participants of the special operation in Kabardino-Balkaria. In Kabardino-Balkaria, one civilian was also wounded.

One should understand that the above statistics cannot reflect with absolute accuracy the number of victims in each of the identified categories of the survey. Not all the data get into news reports. It is not always possible to verify the reliability of statements made by law enforcement bodies.

Detentions

On November 15, in the village of Karman-Sinzikau in North Ossetia, the police detained an elderly local resident, who was busy reworking gas firearms into combat pistols; 11 such pistols were confiscated from him.

On November 18, in Dagestan, a militants' aide, who supplied food and rendered transport services to a member of the so-called "Kizilyurt subversive and terrorist grouping".

In the evening on November 17, in Urus-Martan (Chechnya), power agents detained four persons involved in the killing of OMON (riot police) agents from Bashkortostan in August this year.

Kidnappings and disappearances

On November 12, Grozny residents reported about abducted by power agents of a young woman, dressed in a hijab. According to their story, the incident occurred in the Chechen capital on November 8. The girl was crossing the street, when several cars with power agents who accompanied one of the senior leaders of the republic stopped near her. A man jumped out of one of the cars and began shouting at her; then his guards pushed her into one of the cars and drove away. Later the girl was released.

On November 15, three villagers of Gimry, Untsukul District of Dagestan, were detained at the Airport "Uytash" in Makhachkala, the Dagestani capital. In protest against their detention, on November 16, about 500 Gimry villagers blocked traffic on the Gimry Bridge. In the afternoon, officials came to meet them and stated that the whereabouts of the detainees had been established, and they would be soon brought to the district. The traffic on the bridge was reopened. On November 18, after about 70 persons again blocked the exit from the village, the three villagers of Gimry were released.
