Georgia's Ministry of Culture has no plans to change the status of Museum of Soviet Occupation

The Ministry of Culture and Protection of Monuments of Georgia has stated that will not revise the status or the name of the Museum of Soviet Occupation.

"Given the public interest, we hereby state that the issue of changing the status or the name of the Museum of Soviet Occupation is not on the agenda of the Ministry of Culture and Protection of Monuments of Georgia," says the statement of the above ministry released in the evening on November 15.

Opponents of closing the museum hold actions. In the evening on Thursday, November 15, about 50 people, including public figures, activists of Georgian NGOs and bloggers, gathered at the building of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia. Leaflets reading "Stop returning to USSR!" were attached to their clothes.

"The issue whether we need the Museum of Soviet Occupation is out of question. There are fundamental issues that cannot be revised," the "Tbilisi Week" quotes Sandro Gabisoniya, a protester and a member of the NGO "House of Tolerance", as saying.
