Ingushetia: victim in "Chitigov's case" agrees with verdict

Today, the court sentenced Ilyas Nalgiev, the former head of the criminal police of Karabulak, to eight years to be served in the high security colony in the case of torture, used against Zelimkhan Chitigov, a refugee from Chechnya. Nazir Guliev, the former staff member of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Ingushetia, who was also the figurant of the case, was acquitted by the court.

Following the court session, held today in the Karabulak Court on the case against Nazir Guliev and Ilyas Nalgiev, the former staff members of the Ingush MIA, the victim party agreed in general with the verdict pronounced. However, the father of the victim Zelimkhan Chitigov has noted that he did not understand why the court had acquitted Nazir Guliev.

Lawyer Nelly Khasanova has stated that the victim party agrees with the court decision. "We are satisfied with the judgment of conviction. If Sheikh-Mukhammed Chitigov, my client, wants to challenge the verdict, then we will challenge it," the lawyer says.

Sheikh-Mukhammed Chitigov, the father of Zelimkhan Chitigov, has noted that in general, he is satisfied with the verdict.

"Given the corruption and chaos in Russia, then, in principle, the verdict is normal. However, I wonder: the prosecutor demanded to sentence Guliev to 10 years of imprisonment, and why the court acquitted Guliev? I am personally afraid to live in such a society. I will never in my life forgive them their torturing my son. If they had asked me humanly to forgive them, I could forgive them for the sake of Allah; however, I will never forgive them torture and humiliation for their shameless effrontery," Sheikh-Mukhammed Chitigov said.
