Relatives of inmates kept in "Salyn IK-1" ask Taimuraz Mamsurov to react to beatings of North-Ossetians

Relatives of convicted natives of North Ossetia, who serve their sentences in the penal colony "Salyn IK-1" in Kalmykia, appealed to Taimuraz Mamsurov, the leader of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, asking to take emergency response measures in connection with the current situation at the penitentiary institution and a mass beating of prisoners.

On November 6, the Division for Citizens' Inquiries of the administration of North Ossetia accepted a letter from the relatives of the prisoners, who served their sentences in the penal colony "Salyn IK-1", addressed to Taimuraz Mamsurov, the leader of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Elina Marzoeva, a public activist from Vladikavkaz.

"I know that the prisoners in the penal colony are being threatened by new retaliation actions, if they dare to voice at least one complaint, when the next commission arrives there," Elina Marzoeva said.

In total, 32 persons signed the appeal to the leader of the republic. The letter states that for a long time, "the persons of Ossetian nationality are subjected in the penitentiary institution to terror from the personnel of the penal colony."

At present, the situation in the penal colony does not change. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by a relative of one of the prisoners, who served their sentences in the penal colony in Kalmykia.

"The administration of the penal colony took a position as if nothing had happened. And they do not realize how dangerous such position is. All victims, except one prisoner, who has set himself on fire and who is in a medical facility, are still in quarantine. No access to them is allowed. No medical examination has been conducted," he said.

The administration of the very penal colony IK-1 refuses to comment on the appeal of the prisoners' relatives and their complaints about mass beatings. When asked about the situation with the mass beating of the prisoners, officer on duty from the penal colony IK-1 said that nothing like that had happened in the penal colony.
