In Derbent, only centre cleared after flooding, local residents assert

Residents of the city of Derbent and volunteers state that only the central streets of the city have been cleaned after the flooding and that the outskirts are still "buried in the mud". The Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) reports that the works to clean the city, affected by the flooding, have been completed.

However, Nurlan Aliev, one of the leaders of the republic's branch of the volunteer organization "Grazhdansky Korpus" (Citizens Corps), has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the biggest problem is not the streets, but the houses of citizens, affected by the flows of water, since "people need to have time to clear everything out and dry prior to the cold weather."

According Nurlan Aliev, at present, "the city receives virtually no help", and "if someone does something in the city, they are volunteers." "During all that time, I saw no special vehicles in the city. Only one excavator worked in Mamedbekov Street, and it was trying to clear the sewerage system," he has added.

Maryam Gasanova, a resident of Derbent, has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that in Mamedbekov Street "there is an unbearable stench of rotting bodies of animals, and in some sections of the sewerage system, sewage continues to flow into the street."

Sevil Magramova, a resident of Derbent, states that the problem of drinking water in the city has still not been solved.

According to the woman, the atmosphere in her house is damp and cold; "however, it is not the worst thing, since there are residents of the city, who have nothing to put on and to eat the water took everything away."
