Some Chiatura miners stop their strike

Some of the miners of the city of Chiatura have agreed to the offered 32-percent increase in wages and stopped their strike. Those who have decided to go on with their protest assert that the proposed salary increase will be made by reducing the premiums.

The main demand of the striking miners was to increase the current wages by 100 percent. Miners also demand to improve safety standards and working conditions. The managers have objected by stating their inability to meet the demands in full.

The decision to stop the strike was made by a part of the miners on October 26, the 12th day of the action; they have already resumed working. Others continue striking and demanding a 100-percent increase in wages, the "Georgia Online" reports.

Representatives of the strikers claim that the administration's proposal of a 32 percent increase in wages is a fiction, because it deprived the workers of their bonuses that makes 23 percent of their wages.

"Out of the proposed 32 percent, 23 percent are our bonuses that they offer including into the wages. Thus, in reality, the offered increase will make only 9 percent. We don't agree and will continue striking," said Shmaga Darbaidze, a miner.

The strikers continue their protest action in the mine Ikhtvisi, the "News.ge" reports.
