Aslan Cherkesov’s mother reports a threat to his life and violation of his rights

Administration of penal colony IK-17 of Krasnoyarsk violates the rights of Aslan Cherkesov convicted for murder of “Spartak” football fan Yegor Sviridov, Aslan’s mother Sonya Cherkesova states.

Sonya Cherkesova appealed to human rights organizations complaining of violation of her son’s rights by the administration of colony IK-17 of Krasnoyarsk. In her appeal Sonya Cherkesova asks to oblige the chief of the correctional facility to secure her son’s personal safety and help her in moving him to one of the penal colonies in the neighbourhood of Kabardino-Balkaria.

In her appeal to “Memorial” Human Rights Center, Ombudsman of Kabardino-Balkaria and Human Rights Center of KBR Sonya Cherkesova reports that she got the news from her son’s attorney that in the beginning of October Aslan complained of colics and was hospitalized.

“He was placed in the contagious isolation ward and was not allowed to take his underwear with him”, Sonya Cherkesova writes.

According to the information she has, in the hospital her son received threats from a major, employee of Chief Directorate of Federal Penal Service whose name she did not know. He threatened Aslan with “savage reprisal”.

“Aslan was placed into a one-man cell. After the treat Aslan started fearing for his life, thought that he might be poisoned and went on a hunger strike. As a result, Aslan’s temperature went up and he asked for a thermometer. In reply head of the unit said that it was not a therapeutics department and refused to give him a thermometer and a fever reducer”, Sonya Cherkesova writes.

“I am retired, a widow 66 years old, a second category disabled person. I have a pension of 6200 rubles and I support Aslan’s child one and a half years old and his wife who is on a maternity leave taking care of the child”, Aslan Cherkesov’s mother writes asking the human rights activists to “help protect her son from the officials’ arbitrary rule” and oblige the chief IK-17 of Krasnoyarsk to secure Aslan’s personal safety and move him to a region neighbouring to Kabardino-Balkaria.
