South Ossetia insists on softening conditions of its citizens in Georgian prisons

The authorities of South Ossetia insist on softening the conditions of citizens of South Ossetia, kept at Georgian prisons. The South Ossetian side voiced specific proposals in that regard at the today's meeting in the framework of the "Mechanisms for preventing and responding to incidents" that took place in the Georgian village of Ergneti.

At present, the convicted citizens of South Ossetia, kept at Georgian prisons, have the opportunity to meet their relatives twice a year. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Khokh Gagloity, Deputy Plenipotentiary Envoy of the President of South Ossetia on post-conflict settlement.

"We insist on more frequent meetings with relatives. Prisoners are not allowed to receive medicines and food from their relatives. We also raise such an issue as free provision of necessary medicines to the prisoners," Khokh Gagloity said.

The tripartite meeting also discussed the earlier planned issues on the situation in the village of Zardiantkari and the fate of disappeared citizens of South Ossetia.

Till present, the Georgian side has not commented on the results of the negotiations.
