David Shakhnazarian: talks between presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan lead Karabakh problem to deadlock

"Armenia has lost its independence and in essence taken on a role of Russia's vassal," stated David Shakhnazarian, a board member of the Armenian National Movement. Armenia is just small change in Russia's relations with Azerbaijan, according to him. International documents that have been passed in connection with the Karabakh problem recently are in variance with the interests of Armenia and Karabakh in fact, said David Shakhnazarian. He laid strictures on the meetings between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan. He told that these meetings were "not negotiations but only their imitation." According to him, it is impossible to settle the Karabakh problem in such a format as it leads to a deadlock. "These meetings substitute the confrontation between Armenia and Azerbaijan for the problem of Nagorny Karabakh," he said and thereupon pointed that the Karabakh party must be a participant in the resolution of the given problem.
