Nagorno-Karabakh: participants of festival of contemporary art present their works

On October 5, the town of Shushi in Nagorno-Karabakh hosted official opening of the Festival of Contemporary Art "Shushi Art Project" and the exhibition of works, created by participants within the event.

"During the first week of the festival, the artists presented their works, particularly in the genres of 'installation' and 'performance' in the open air and got prepared for the exhibition. During the second week, the exhibition will be held to provide the public with the possibility to see the works of contemporary artists," stated Gerii Vorberyan, the author of the project "Shushi Art Project" and the organizer of the festival. He has added that "all artists are conceptualists."

The exhibition of all works will take place till October 14. After that, some works will remain and some works will be brought to Yerevan.

Photographer German Avakyan from Armenia presented at the festival the photographic project entitled "Born after Death". He said that he presented photographs of young people, who were born in 1991-94 and whose fathers were killed in the Karabakh war.

"The idea of my project was born a long time ago; however, I was waiting, when heroes of my project would be 14-17 years old. This is the age, when their affinity with their parents, whom they do not remember or have never seen, clearly expressed. That is why all my heroes are holding portraits of their fathers in their hands. I invite all persons, involved in the solution of the Karabakh conflict, to look into the eyes of those children and ask what they want," German Avakyan said.

Artist Alexei Manukyan (Armenia) presented his work entitled "Ten Meters". He said that the idea of his work is to "take away a souvenir of 10 meters of Shushi town."
