First women's madrasa opened in south-eastern Chechnya

The "Muminat", the first women's madrasa in Chechnya was opened in the foothill Shali District of Chechnya. This religious educational institution has been operating for thirteen years already; however, till recent time, it did not have its own building.

"Last weekend, the village of Chiri-Yurt of the Shali District solemnly opened the first in our republic female madrasa 'Muminat', in Arabic 'female believer'. This is one of the oldest madrasas, where girls and women could study basics of religion, and it has been operating for 13 years already. Thanks to Aiman Kadyrova, President of the Regional Public Foundation named after Akhmat-Khadji Kadyrov, the madrasa now got its own building, equipped with everything, necessary for training," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by representative of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Chechnya.

He has noted that, till recent time, madrasa students were studying in different adapted premises, and, despite the difficult circumstances, during past years, more than 300 girls learned the basics of religion."

The madrasa, opened in the village of Chiri-Yurt, is a one-storey building. The rooms are equipped with computers, and there are all the necessary literature and a place to perform prayers.

The building of the women's madrasa was built in the village of Chiri-Yurt in just three months. The funds for the construction of the building were allocated by the Regional Public Foundation named after Akhmat Kadyrov.

"I remember the time, when President Djokhar Dudaev claimed that our girls needed not schools, but madrasas, and that statement caused a wave of indignation in the republic. Djokhar Dudaev was criticized everywhere and by everyone. People said that he did not want our children to get good education, that the rights of women were being violated, and so on. Today, for some reason, no one protests against women's madrasas, against mandatory wearing of headscarves for young women, or against the introduction of some elements of Sharia law. On the contrary, all people thank the government and personally Ramzan Kadyrov for that. That is, the outlook on life had so dramatically changed in some twenty years in our republic," says Aslanbek M., a resident of Chechnya.
