Natives of Georgia held an action of protest in New York during Saakashvili's speech

About one hundred Americans who are natives of Georgia gathered on September, 25, opposite the building of United Nations Headquarters in New York at a demonstration demanding Mikhail Saakashvili's Government resignation.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili spoke during the debates at the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly. In his speech Saakashvili accused Russia of an attempt to influence the results of the parliamentary election in the country and escalation of its presence in South Ossetia.

Election of the Georgian Parliament and the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adzharia are appointed on October, 1. Election of the Parliament of the country consisting of 150 deputies will be based on proportional and majority system.

The action during Mikhail Saakashvili's speech gathered over one hundred people, mostly natives of Georgia, who chanted slogans "Saakashvili is a murderer!", "Bring the criminal to book!", ITAR-TASS reports. At this moment he was saying on the tribune that during his government Georgia became a "model of a democratic state".

Anton Djamadze, one of the organizers of the demonstration near the UN walls, called to distrust Saakashvili's words. "During the last eight years this gangster terrorizing his own people has been telling lies and only a fool can believe him", he declared.

According to Djamadze, the United Nations, White House and the Pentagon "know who they are dealing with" but overlook it. He called for the above mentioned bodies and personally Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton to stop collaboration with a person "who ruined his country and started war with Russia with whose people the Georgians have had long-standing neighborly relations".

The participants of the action also drew the World community's attention to the murders and torture taking place in Georgia, RIA "Novosti" reports. According to Vakhtang Gomelauri, after video records of violence in local prisons became public in Georgia "every Georgian is against Saakashvili's Government".

Meanwhile, the President of Georgia speaking from the General Assembly tribune said that all those guilty of the crimes in prisons had been arrested and punished. "Our reaction was quick and we did what a democratic community should do. All those guilty were arrested, two ministers of the Government resigned. We appointed our Ombudsman who had strongly criticized the penal system before head of this system", "Voice of America" quotes Saakashvili.
