Leader of Azerbaijani Diaspora attacked in Ulyanovsk

Today unidentified persons have attacked Islam Guseinov, the chairman of the Ulyanovsk regional branch of the public organization All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress (ARAC) and his bodyguard. Guseinov was wounded, his bodyguard was killed.

"The accident happened around 1:00 p.m. at NO. 95 Lenin Street. According to preliminary reports, one of Guseinov's employees, supposedly a bodyguard, was killed. Guseinov has traumas not dangerous for his life," said the spokesman of the UVD (Interior Department) of Ulyanovsk.

The police have explained that everything happened as a result of a scuffle. However, unofficial sources say that it was an attempt on the leader of the Diaspora, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

On September 15, 2005, Islam Guseinov was elected the chairman of the Ulyanovsk branch of the ARAC. At the initiative of Guseinov and on his money a monument to Geidar Aliev was opened in Ulyanovsk, the "1news.az" reports.
