Dagestan: relatives of assassinated Sharamazanov demand his body for burial

Relatives of Ramazan Sharamazanov, who was killed on September 2 in a shootout with the police, state that they cannot get his body for burial, said Murtuzali Tagirov, the chairman of the human rights organization "Fighter for Justice".

According to the Dagestani MIA, in the evening on September 2, near the village of Komsomolskoe, Kizilyurt District, the police stopped a car for checking; the men sitting in it opened fire and were killed by return fire. They were identified as a resident of Astrakhan Viktor Volkov and a resident of the village of Sultanyangiyurt Ramazan Sharamazanov. Law enforcers believe that the casualties had been involved in illegal armed formations (IAFs).

Relatives of Sharamazanov have addressed Murtuzali Tagirov, the chairman of the human rights organization "Fighter for Justice", for help.

"They said that Ramazan was not an accomplice to militants, as the MIA presents. They demand to have the body for burial. There's no evidence of Sharamazanov's guilt. We wrote an application to the Prosecutor's Office of Dagestan, as the Investigatory Committee of Kizilyurt refused to accept it, saying that nobody was at work," Murtuzali Tagirov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Sharamazanov was an active helper to IAF members; his body will not be given out until all the circumstances are cleared out, said a source from the MIA.

"He was linked with the 'Kizilyurt' subversive and terrorist grouping. By the way, Viktor Volkov, killed together with Sharamazanov, who lived in Astrakhan and was on the federal wanted list under Article 222, part 2, of the Russian Criminal Code (illegal purchase and sale of weapons), was also a member of the grouping," said the source.

According to his story, Sharamazanov supplied clothes and food to militants and provided them with transport means. "There is a suspicion that he was involved in preparation of a number of terror acts in the republic," said the source from the MIA.
