Ruslan Ismailov's custody extended by two months in Dagestan

On August 21, the custody term of Ruslan Ismailov, detained on suspicion of committing a terror act and kept in SIZO-1 of Makhachkala, was extended by two months. His advocate Gadjimurad Izmailov complains that he is unable to meet his client, as SIZO workers took away the defender's ID card.

Ismailov was kidnapped, as stated by his relatives, by unidentified persons on June 22. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan, he was detained in the course of operative activities. On June 24 it was announced that Ismailov was in the temporary detention facility (known as IVS). His mother Zhanna Ismailova had earlier reported that the advocate had been several times rejected from meeting her son, referring to the fact that Ruslan had refused in writing from his services. Also, according to the woman, her son is physical pressure, demanding his confession.

The advocate Izmailov managed to meet his client Ruslan Ismailov only on August 16; before that, the advocate had to leave his ID card and mobile phone with the person on duty for SIZO-1.

"When I was leaving, they returned only the phone; nobody could explain where my ID card could disappear. I wrote applications about abuse of power to the prosecutor's office and the Investigatory Committee, but so far I can't get my ID card back, and in fact, I can't see my client," Gadjimurad Izmailov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Nobody took away Izmailov's ID card, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the press service of the Dagestani UFSIN (Department of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service).

"When Izmailov was leaving SIZO-1, he nearly started a fight with one of the employees: he grabbed his uniform and began insulting and threatening him by telling that in the evening Ismailov's brothers would come and 'have a talk with him.' Then, he left his ID card there and left the SIZO," said a source from the press service of the Dagestani UFSIN.

According to his story, there are numerous witnesses who will confirm this. "On these facts we have gathered materials to be sent to the Investigatory Committee of Dagestan for a decision to prosecute the lawyer Gadjimurad Izmailov," said the source.
