About 600 candidates to take part in elections of local self-administration authorities of Armenia

Yesterday, August 15, 6:00 p.m., was a deadline for registration of candidates, who would participate in the elections of local self-administration in Armenia to be held on September 9. According to the Central Election Committee (CEC) of Armenia, as of 4:30 p.m. Moscow time, 598 persons nominated themselves for the positions of the heads of 375 communities in five regions of the country.

On September 6, the elections to local self-administration are to be conducted in the Ararat, Armavir, Shirak, Lori, and Syunik Regions of Armenia. Besides, the elections of mayors of cities of Vanadzor and Gyumri are scheduled.

According to the CEC, 281 out of 598 registered candidates are representatives of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), 251 non-partisan, 40 members of the "Prosperous Armenia" (PPA) Party, 16 candidates represent the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) "Dashnaktsutyun", and 8 the "Country of Rule of Law" Party.

Among those, who intend to participate in the elections to authorities of local self-administration (ILSA), there are no representatives from the opposition "Heritage" Party and the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) is represented by only one candidate Vartan Makeyan, who runs for the position of head of a village council in the community of Panic of the Shirak Region.
