In Makhachkala, relatives of detained Izberbash residents picket Prosecutor's Office

Today, in Makhachkala, in Lenin Square and near the building of the Republic's Prosecutor's Office, two unsanctioned pickets were held, which was attended by more than 1000 persons. In the course of the protest actions, citizens demanded to release from the SIZO (pre-trial prison) two residents of the city of Izberbash, detained by power agents, and appealed for help to the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation.

On July 23, law enforcement agents of the city of Izberbash detained Gamid Medjidov, Timur Akhmedov, and Timur Israfilov on suspicion of murdering a pensioner. This was reported by relatives of the detainees.

According to Khalimat, the mother of Gamid Medjidov, after two days of detention of the young men in the police station, the restriction measure against them was extended for ten days. "We expected that after the guys would be released after interrogation of witnesses, since they have an alibi; however, that did not happen," the woman stated.

According to her, after ten days, Timur Israfilov was released, and Gamid Medjidov, Timur Akhmedov faced a restriction measure in the form of keeping in custody for two months. According to the detainee's mother, the decision was challenged at the Supreme Court of Dagestan, and the Court modified the sanction to ten days.

At present, the detainees are kept at the SIZO of the city of Derbent. "Investigators do not explain anything neither to the lawyer, nor to us, the relatives. On August 6, we held a rally in Izberbash; however, no results followed. That is why we arrived in Makhachkala; however, even here we cannot reach an understanding with the authorities," Khalimat Medjidova said.

According to the woman, one of the detainees is subjected to torture.

"Timur Akhmedov was tortured with electric current, and he was beaten with five-litre vessels with water to various parts of his body. As a result, his health is not satisfactory for keeping in custody," Khalimat Medjidova has noted.
