In Mineralnye Vody, members of public movement go on hunger strike, demanding Mayor's dismissal

On July 25, members of the human rights movement "Veche of Mineralnye Vody" informed the regional media about the start of the indefinite hunger strike, demanding the dismissal of the Mayor. According to the protesters, the hunger strike was reasoned by the consequences of the flooding in the city of Mineralnye Vody, which damaged more than 100 house ownerships of local residents.

Two activists of the organization, its leader Mikhail Savostin and his deputy Dmitry Chernov are on hunger strike in the territory of his own company "Master Krovlya" (Master of Roof) in the industrial area of Mineralnye Vody.

The basic demand of the protesters is the dismissal of the city leaders, including Mayor Konstantin Gamayunov and Alexander Shiyanov, the head of the administration.

The flooding in Mineralnye Vody became the largest one for the last ten years. According to Mikhail Savostin, the flooding has revealed the systemic problems in the management of the city, in particular, the dilapidated state of the public infrastructure and low mobility of the emergency services.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, who personally visited the district, found that the private sector, which was actively built in the post-war years, was virtually devoid of storm sewer system, some streets had no such system, and the storm sewer system of the other streets was clogged. As a result, water flow after heavy rains is extremely complicated.

Till present, the "Caucasian Knot" has no comments of representatives of the administration of the city of Mineralnye Vody regarding statements of Mikhail Savostin.
