Advocate of Guseinov beaten by policemen to meat Dagestani MIA head

The meeting of the lawyer Sapiyat Magomedova, who is defending Anvar Guseinov, a resident of Dagestan, who complained that employees of the Khasavyurt ROVD (District Interior Division) had beaten him, with the local Minister of Internal Affairs has been scheduled for July 26.

According to Sapiyat Magomedova, the Minister received her client's application and made an appointment for her. Ummupazil Omarova, the Ombudsperson in Dagestan, has also promised to interfere in the situation; the investigatory authorities have not yet given any answer, the lawyer said.

In his statement dated July 23 and addressed to the Ombudsperson, Minister of Internal Affairs and Investigatory Committee of Dagestan, Anvar Guseinov asks to punish the employees of the Khasavyurt, one of them named Marat, who beat him after he was brought to the ROVD on July 20.

He also asks to send him to a medical examination to define the degree of his bodily injuries.

According to Mr Guseinov, he is ready to identify the policemen, who "stripped him naked and beat, trying to knock out a confession." The Khasavyurt ROVD makes no comments on his torture complaints.
