Dagestani resident asks human rights defenders to protect her son from persecution of power agents

Beskhanum Gasanova, the resident of thevillage of Chernyaevka of the Kizlyar District, the mother of Shakhban Gasanov, who on July 21 was detained by local law enforcement agents for possession of weapons, appealed to the public organization "Pravozaschita" (Advocacy) and asked to protect her family from persecution of power agents. According to a source at the ROVD (District Interior Division) of the Kizlyar District, Shakhban Gasanov is a member of the armed group.

On July 16, Shakhban Gasanov, a 23-year-old resident of the villageof Chernyaevkaof the Kizlyar District was detained on suspicion of involvement with militants. Earlier, he was conditionally sentenced for illegal possession of weapons. On July 21, a search was conducted in his house, during which a weapon was found. However, relatives of Shakhban Gasanov stated that the weapon was planted.

"When my son was conditionally sentenced, policemen from the OVD (Interior Division) of the Kizlyar District became frequent guests at our house. They conducted searches and threatened my son that they would surely 'put him in the list of missing persons'," Beskhanum Gasanova expressed her indignation.

The woman appealed to the public organization "Pravozaschita".

"The search, conducted in the house on July 21, was carried out with multiple violations of the procedural code," Abdul G., the detainee's lawyer from the "Kavkaz" Bar, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Shakhban Gasanov was formally charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: organization of and participation in the illegal armed formations and illicit arms trafficking. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by a source in the Kizlyar ROVD. The source has added that, according to available information, Shakhban Gasanov is a member of the Kizlyar grouping of militants. He was arrested for 2 months, for the duration of the investigation. The ROVD officer has also noted that the lawyer is allowed to meet the detainee.
