Khasavyurt ROVD releases earlier missing resident of Dagestan

Magomed Sulaev, a resident of Dagestan, who was detained on July 20 and whose relatives said that he had been kidnapped by unidentified persons, was found at the Khasavyurt ROVD (District Interior Division) and released. Mr Sulaev told his advocate that Anvar Guseinov, who was detained together with him, was severely beaten.

On July 20, a resident of the Khasavyurt District said that he had witnessed a kidnapping of Anvar Guseinov, 21, and Magomed Sulaev, 29, residents of the village of Bairam. Their relatives sent an application to the local division of the Investigatory Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), where they asked to establish the whereabouts of Guseinov and Sulaev. Later it became known that both were kept at the Khasavyurt ROVD.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by one of Sulaev's relatives that on July 21 Sulaev was released without presenting any charges, while the detained Anvar Guseinov was beaten throughout the night by policemen, who forced him to sign some papers.

The advocate Sapiyat Magomedova said that Anvar Guseinov is suspected of illegal arms possession and intentional infliction of damage to one's property. The Dagestani Prosecutor's Office asserts that Sulaev and Guseinov had refused from Sapiyat Magomedova's services; however, she says that it is not true. Besides, according to her story, she is not admitted to see the detainee.

The Khasavyurt ROVD has refused to comment on the information.
