Armenians from Syria expect help in employment and accommodation from Armenian authorities

It is desirable that the Armenian government could help the Syrian Armenians, who have arrived in Armenia, to solve the problems of housing and employment, Tigran Gaboyan, a Syrian writer of Armenian origin, said on July 20 at a press conference.

Let us remind you that because of the warfare in Syria, the Armenian Diaspora found itself in a difficult situation. At the same time, politicians, Arabists and refugees themselves have stated that Armenia would not cope with a mass repatriation of Armenians from Syria.

According to Mr Gaboyan, on arrival in Armenia, Syrian Armenians are facing problems associated with accommodation and employment.

The writer said that so far six Armenians had perished in Syria: three were in the Syrian army, and three others were just peaceful citizens and died in explosions.

Mr Gaboyan told reporters that a week ago a group of Syrian Armenians, who are in Armenia, addressed their letter – through the Ministry of the Diaspora – to the Airline "Armavia" asking to make tickets cheaper, cancel the visa regime and increase the number of flights.

In her turn, Nana Avetisova, the press secretary of "Armavia", said that the airline did not overstate the flight costs. A one way ticket costs 128,000 drams (about 311 US dollars). "There were price fluctuations; however, they had to do not with speculations around the situation in Syria, but with changes of the euro exchange rate and fuel prices," she said.
