IPM sitting fails to agree on Georgian MIA post transfer in Zardiantkari

The authorities of Georgia and South Ossetia have failed to reach a consensus on the issue of the presence of the post of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), which was moved on June 29 from the outskirt of the village of Zardiantkari into its centre, said Khokh Gagloity, the deputy envoy of the president of South Ossetia on post-conflict settlement.

Let us remind you that the transfer of the Georgian police post in the village by several hundred meters closer to the border with South Ossetia had caused tension among the local population.

"Two meetings within the Incident Prevention Mechanism (IPM) on this issue failed to make any real changes," Mr Gagloity told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent and added that the post of the Georgian MIA is still in the centre of the village of Zardiantkari.

"The Georgian party is not going to return the post to its initial place, explaining that the Georgian refugees agree to come back only if there is a police post in the village to ensure their safety. The Georgian party insists that they give security guarantees to all the villagers regardless of nationality," said Gagloity.

The South-Ossetian party has once again stressed during the meeting that the village of Zardiantkari is in the responsibility area of the EU Mission.

So far, here are no comments of the Georgian party on the outcomes of the today's meeting.
