Consideration of lawsuit, filed by Kadyrov's lawyer against HRC "Memorial" postponed to July 4

Today, in the Tver District Court, at the trial on the lawsuit, filed by Andrei Krasnenkov, the lawyer of the Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, against the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" on protection of business reputation, plaintiff and defendant voiced their positions. The judge has noted that she should examine the materials of the case and postponed the meeting till 09:00 a.m. on July 4.

Today, the court session was attended by about ten journalists, Andrei Krasnenkov, Oleg Orlov, the head of the HRC "Memorial", and his defender Sergey Davidis.

At the beginning of the trial, the lawyer Andrei Krasnenkov read out some statements of the head of the HRC "Memorial" at the court sessions on the case "Kadyrov vs. Orlov". Besides, the plaintiff recalled the article, which was posted on the official website of the HRC "Memorial" on September 30, 2010, "Representative of Ramzan Kadyrov misinforms journalists."

"Actually, I was accused of the fact that I behave improperly in public life and distort the facts. This is not true. Besides, I was accused of the fact that I misinformed the investigator Captain of Justice Khachinkova. I did not deceive the investigator. In fact, I was accused of a crime," Andrei Krasnenkov stated.

The judge repeatedly interrupted the lawyer, asking the plaintiff to provide specific facts, the of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from the courtroom.

Lawyer Sergey Davidis, the representative of Oleg Orlov, analyzed the interviews of Andrei Krasnenkov to the RSN, the newspapers "Kommersant" and "Novye Izvestiya".

"The plaintiff intentionally made statements, discrediting honour and dignity of the HRC 'Memorial'," Sergey Davidis stated. He continued: "We believe that Andrei Krasnenkov misinformed three media. He spoke of the circumstances, of which he could not know. The information also discredits the HRC 'Memorial'. We can say that they tried to discredit the HRC. We found out that Andrei Krasnenkov tried to misinform the investigator by the fact that he inaccurately described the meeting of human rights defenders with Ramzan Kadyrov. In connection with the above, we believe that Andrei Krasnenkov's claims should be dismissed."

Oleg Orlov supported his lawyer.
