Stanislav Kochiev cannot proceed with duties of Speaker of South-Ossetian Parliament

On June 29, Stanislav Kochiev, the leader of the Communist Party of South Ossetia, failed to proceed with the duties of the Speaker of Parliament, despite the decision of the Republic's Supreme Court.

On May 26, the Supreme Court of South Ossetia admitted an appeal, filed by Zurab Kokoev, Acting Chairman of the Republic's Parliament, against the court decision on the lawsuit of Stanislav Kochiev. Prior to that, on May 17, the Supreme Court of South Ossetia granted the lawsuit of Stanislav Kochiev for his reinstatement in office.

According to Stanislav Kochiev, on June 27, the decision of the Supreme Court of South Ossetia reinstated him in office as the Speaker of Parliament; however, on June 29, he was not able to enter the office of the head of the republic's legislative body.

"Zurab Kokoev, who is no longer the Acting Speaker, failed to give me the keys to the cabinet," Stanislav Kochiev said.

He stated that on June 29, the Parliament convened a meeting of the Committee on legislation, rule of law and local self-administration, which decided to re-introduce the question of distrust to Stanislav Kochiev for debate of MPs.

"Those actions create tension. The Communist Party expressed the opinion that if the MPs behave like that, the entire faction will leave the Parliament," Stanislav Kochiev stated. The leader of the Communist Party recalled his willingness to work with everyone, not remembering the past controversies. "However, conditions of confrontation are imposed to us, and we accept them," he has stressed.

At present, Zurab Kokoev is outside of South Ossetia, the "Res" reports.

Immediately after the decision of the Supreme Court of May 17 became known, Stanislav Kochiev stated that he was ready "to immediately proceed with his duties" and "give his hand all opponents for consolidation of the society," the "Kommersant" reports.
