Ali Dobriev claims being persecuted for combating power agents' lawlessness in Ingushetia

On June 29, the Supreme Court of Ingushetia held a regular session in the case against prosecutor Ali Dobriev, accused of creating illegal armed formation (IAF) and participating in it. The defendant delivered his final speech, in which he once again declared his innocence and lack of serious evidence of his involvement in the incriminated crimes.

Let us remind you that Ali Dobriev, Senior Assistant to the Prosecutor of the Sunzha District, was detained on September 18, 2011, in the village of Ekazhevo. According to investigators, in 2010, he organized an IAF, which members were involved in committing a number of attacks in the Nazran District. In late March, the criminal case was brought to court. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the defendant planned a terror act at his work. Ali Dobriev himself, his father and lawyer deny that fact.

In his speech, Ali Dobriev assumed that the criminal case, instituted against him, represents a result of his work for the Prosecutor's Office.

"Working as a prosecutor, I paid much attention to the facts of lawlessness, committed by law enforcement officers against citizens of the Russian Federation; I collected certain materials about those facts. I guess that the criminal case represents a result of that work," Ali Dobriev said.

Batyr Akhilgov, one of the lawyers of the defendant, stated in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" that the case contained a lot of inconsistencies.

"We are convinced that at the trial, the case has absolutely failed, although they tried to stick its parts together. At the end of judicial investigation, in fact, there is no evidence of Ali Dobriev's involvement in the committed crimes, apart from his confession, given on the first two days of the preliminary investigation, which he later retracted, and the same confessions of his alleged accomplices, who gave them at the FSB Department under pressure," Batyr Akhilgov has explained.

He believes that those "questionable confessions" represented the basis of evidence.
