In Kabardino-Balkaria, parents of resident of Kakhun village claim his unlawful detention by power agents

Parents of Anzor Koshiev, a resident of the village of Kakhun of the Urvan District of Kabardino-Balkaria, born in 1981, appealed to the Republic's Human Rights Centre with a complaint about kidnapping of their son by power agents. At present, according to them, Anzor Koshiev is being kept at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of Nalchik, and he was charged of illegal possession of weapons and drugs.

According to parents of Anzor Koshiev, their son was kidnapped in the evening of May 31, when he drove home from the town of Nartkala.

"In Lenin Street in Nartkala, he was stopped by officers of the patrol-and-post service (PPS) with a car without state registration number. They demanded that he should present his documents and he obeyed. After that, he was requested to open the boot. At this time, suddenly, three men in masks and camouflage jumped out of the car, tied him, handcuffed and thrown into their car," states the complaint, filed by the relatives of Anzor Koshiev.

According to them, Anzor was brought to the police station, where he was beaten and tortured. Meanwhile, the number of the police station and its location is not specified in the complaint.

"In between, he was asked questions about the members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) and militants. Then, he was brought to the area of poultry factory in the village of Kakhun, near the ring road, and officers tried to force him to sign some papers and then again drove him away to some unknown direction and continued to torture him. Then, they again brought him to the country road towards the village of Psynabo, put ammunition in his boot, put a grenade with a fuse and a package of marijuana into his pocket and preliminary smeared his hands with drug," states the complaint, filed by the Koshiev family.

According to the relatives of Anzor Koshiev, several days later, power agents filed against their son charges of illegal possession of weapons and drugs, and keeping in custody was chosen as a pre-trial restriction measure. "At present, our son is being kept at the SIZO of Nalchik, although he is not guilty of anything," state the parents of the detainee.

"Actually, testimony of Anzor Koshiev, given by him as a defendant, contains information, indicated by his relatives. On June 2, during the conversation with Anzor Koshiev, I had a chance to see the injuries on his face, hands, and ears. Besides, Anzor Koshiev reported that he had bruises on his body," said lawyer Eva Chanieva.

According to the lawyer, during the meeting with her client, he complained about his health state, pains, and, therefore, she had to interrupt the conversation and call an ambulance, which registered the presence of bruises on the body of Anzor Koshiev.
