Week of Tourism held in Batumi

According to Tamar Djizhavadze, the project coordinator and an employee of the Department of Tourism of Adzharia, the most active participants of the "Week of Tourism", organized in Batumi, were young people.

The "Week of Tourism", launched on May 28, assumes a number of activities aimed at attracting investments in the tourism industry and increase of traffic of tourists.

"We've attracted a lot of young people so that they feel how tourism is important for the development of our region," Ms Djizhavadze has noted and added that students from the University of Tourism held a conference on development of tourism and conducted a practical campaign on checking the readiness of camping places.

Schoolchildren took part in cleaning the beaches; and then excursions to national parks in Adzharia were organized for them.

"We invited about 90 children from orphanages and disadvantaged families. For four days they were making kites. When the kites were launched into the sky, the whole Batumi was admiring the spectacular show!" said the project coordinator.

According to the Department of Tourism of Adzharia, this year the region has already been visited by 239,742 tourists, which is by 61.7 percent more than in 2011 (148,267 persons), and by 203 percent more than in 2010 (79,113 persons).
