A peacemaker from Georgia perished in Afghanistan

Sergeant Valerian Khudjadze, representative of Georgian peacemaking contingent in Afghanistan, blasted on a mine, the Ministry of Defense of Georgia reported today. The time of the accident was not specified.

According to the Ministry of Defense, there are about one thousand Georgian servicemen in Afghanistan as of today. The Georgian servicemen have been in Afghanistan since 2009. International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) includes one company (175 soldiers and officers) dislocated in Kabul, in the zone of responsibility of France, and a battalion consisting of 749 people, in the zone of responsibility of the USA, in the province of Helmand.

The Ministry specifies that Khudjadze died "from wounds as a result of an explosion of the enemy's self-made mine".

Khudjadze served in the 31st battalion included into ISAF in the province of Helmand. Earlier, he participated in the Mission in Iraq. He was awarded a medal "For participation in peacemaking operations", IA "Novosti-Georgia" reports.

During the whole period of the Georgian contingent's participation in the operation of ISAF under the aegis of NATO already 16 military men perished in Afghanistan.
