In Elista, candidate not approved as city manager tries to storm Mayoralty

Supporters of Arthur Dordjiev, who was not approved for the post of city manager, blocked the Elista Mayoralty and tried to storm the building, said Mingiyan Yashaev, the incumbent acting city manager of Elista, the capital of Kalmykia.

According to his story, a group of about one hundred young hooligans from among supporters of Dordjiev has gathered in front of the Mayoralty. Mr Yashaev has added that the police and OMON (riot police) fighters have been brought to the place of the conflict, the "Interfax" reports.

The arriving policemen have cordoned the Mayoralty and keep the situation under the rule of law. Some of the most active hooligans, who tried to break the door of the Mayoralty, were detained and brought to the police station, the "Elista.org" reports.

So far, there are no comments from Dordjiev's supporters.

The opposing groups of deputies sat down to negotiation table, but failed to reach agreement. The group headed by the deputy chairman of the Elista City Council (ECC) Baatr Badaev persistently demanded that Arthur Dordjiev was allowed into the Mayoralty. Then, Badaev and part of the deputies locked themselves in the office of deputy chairman of the ECC.
