Participants of a meeting in Dagestan demanded punishment for a policeman who shot at a teenager

On April, 22, a meeting with about one thousand participants was held in the settlement of Karata, Ahvakh district. During the action its participants demanded punishment for Zaur Djalilov, officer of Ahvakh Department of Interior Affairs. It is suspected that on April, 16, he shot into a sixteen-years-old local resident’s head.

The tragedy took place at night of April, 16. Earlier, a local resident reported that policeman Djalilov opened destruction fire from Government-issue weapon at young guys who started a scuffle. A bullet got into the head of a sixteen-years-old local resident of Karata. The teenager was urgently hospitalized and stayed in hospital in the state of coma.

Aligaziyav Aligazies was moderator of the meeting of April, 22. He reported that there had already been meetings with representatives of the authorities in Makhachkala who promised to carry out a thorough investigation and punish the parties at fault to the fullest extent of the law.

According to other participants of the action, the situation in the district remains extremely tense and mass scuffles cannot be ruled out. At the end of the meeting its participants unanimously adopted a resolution addressed to the authorities of Russia and Dagestan. The document runs that the residents of Karata strongly condemn “all the cases of mass scuffles” and would “not let anyone play off the villagers of Ahvakh district against one another. For centuries they have lived in love and peace”.

Residents of Karata demanded to punish Djalilov who according to their information, while protecting his relative shot into the teenager not privy to any events. The authors of the resolution emphasized local authorities’ negligence which, in their opinion, could have allowed the conflict.

Djalilov does not acknowledge himself guilty. “Senior sergeant Djalilov states that he did not shoot at the children. He assures that he was inside a crowd of fighting people and shot several bullets into the air. Then somebody pushed him and he pulled the trigger once again. The bullet got into the teenager’s head”, a source close to the investigation informed earlier.
