Former political prisoner Fatullaev in Azerbaijan opened a human rights web-site

Non-governmental organization "For Human Rights" in Azerbaijan headed by former political prisoner, journalist Einulla Fatullaev opened a new human rights web-portal "Your right". On April, 11, a presentation of this web-site was held in media center of the Institute of Freedom and Safety of Reporters (IFSR) in Baku.

"The citizens must be informed of their rights and able to vindicate them. That is why we will do our best for our portal to become center of legal enlightenment", Einulla Fatullaev said at the presentation of the web-site.

According to him, the portals' mission is to encourage civil mobilization of the public at large who wish to integrate their efforts in the cause of human rights protection and consolidation of the basis of civil society in Azerbaijan.

The portal "Your right" (haqqin.az) is available in three languages: Azerbaijani, Russian and English and contains analytic and informational materials, reports of international organizations on human rights issues, international legal documents and news about the events in Azerbaijan. The web-resource has also a lot of reference information.

Lists of political prisoners from different organizations were combined and a general list of 75 political prisoners is posted on the portal. Besides, there is a map of the places where they are serving penalty with the addresses of prisons and colonies. There has been no resource like this for the users of Azerbaijani Internet before.

By means of this web-site NGO "For Human Rights" is also going to deliver information on the results of monitoring held in penal institutions.

The originators of the portal see it as a platform for public discussions of topical issues in human rights sphere.

According to Fatullaev, the citizens will also be able to get expert and advisory aid with the help of the portal.

Anar Mamedli, Coordinator of "Alliance to protect political freedoms", called the opening of haqqin.az portal an important event in the human rights sphere of the country.

The web-site was created with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway.

NGO "For human rights" is also implementing a project of monitoring prisons supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Federal Republic of Germany.
