The owner of “News Media” won a lawsuit against Deputy of State Duma from Volgograd region Mikheev

Savelovsky court of Moscow granted a suit to defend honour, dignity and business reputation of Aram Gabrelyanov, owner of “News Media” holding, against Deputy of State Duma Oleg Mikheev and obliged him to pay the plaintiff 40 thousand rubles compensation for moral damage.  

Gabrelyanov and Mikheev exchanged lawsuits after on August, 17, “Lifenews” which is part of “News Media” holding published photos of the Deputy, according to “Lifenews”, “in the uniform of fascist admiral Wilhelm Canaris”. Head of the election staff of “Fair Russia” and the regional branch of the party Oleg Mikheev declared that he had submitted a suit to defend his honour, dignity and business reputation in connection with the publication.

Representatives of regional branch of “Fair Russia” party called the material a “provocation” and the photos “forged ones”. The designers substituted the Russian cockade on Mikheev’s service cap for the fascist eagle” with the help of “Photoshop” PC program, Press service of “Fair Russia” states on the official web-site of the party.

A TV program shown on August, 19, 2011, on “REN TV” channel “Sergey Dorenko: Russian Tales” in which there was a dispute between Mikheev and Gabrelyanov became the reason for Gabrelyanov’s lawsuit.

In this dispute Mikheev spread an information which the court later acknowledged untrue and discrediting Gabrelyanov’s honour, dignity and business reputation, Russian Agency of Legal and Juridical Information reports.

“He (Mikheev – Note by the “Caucasian Knot) stated that Gabrelyanov’s representatives came to him asking to finance the media, otherwise promising to “give him hot and strong”, the plaintiff’s attorney Sergey Zhorin said.

As a result, Gabrelyanov appealed to court and won the lawsuit. According to the judgment, the information must be disclaimed on the air of the TV channel and the Deputy must pay 40 thousand rubles compensation. The judgment may be appealed against in the higher court, i.e. Moscow city court.

Besides, the court obliged Mikheev and his co-respondent, ”REN TV” channel, to publish a refutation of the information he spread, RIA “Novosti” reports.

There are no comments from Mikheev or his attorneys concerning the verdict as of the moment. There is also no information of consideration of Mikheev’s lawsuit against Gabrelyanov yet.
