In Sochi, Alpijskaya Street residents complain about a week-long absence of power and heat

On March 10, residents of several houses in Alpijskaya Street of Sochi told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they had stayed for a week without electricity. Officials from the Mayoralty and the energy grid cannot tell exactly when the problem will be solved.

According to Alexandra Evgenievna Dvidenko, a disabled 87-year-old veteran of the Great Patriotic War, a few houses, Nos. 28-38 in Alpijskaya Street, are without electricity for a week already.

"The houses are inhabited by elderly people and little children; all of them are freezing: it's cold and snowing in Sochi; they have nothing to warm up their homes and can't cook hot meals or have a shower, washing facilities," said the war veteran.

Ms Dvidenko's relatives sent telegram to Anatoly Pakhomov, Mayor of Sochi, demanding to take urgent actions, as people in Alpijskaya Street "may die from cold." No response was given, and no actions were taken, local residents assert.

According to Idea Gertovna Leningradskaya, a Sochi old-timer Sochi, she brings hot meals to her friends living in Alpijskaya Street. "People have to help each other in order just to survive, while commercial construction projects are implemented all around," she said.

Oksana Iritskaya, the head of the press service of the Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) "Kubanenergo", said that people from Alpijskaya Street, who stay without power and heat, may receive humanitarian help, for which they should go to the city administration.
