Movie "August. The Eighth" presented in Vladikavkaz

On February 25, the city of Vladikavkaz saw the premiere of the movie "August. The Eighth", a story about the conflict in South Ossetia in 2008. After the screening, the film director Djanik Faiziev, actors and members of the filming crew addressed the audience.

The invitees to the premiere were journalists, soldiers of the 58th Army, stationed in Vladikavkaz, and republic's leaders, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

"For those people who know this war firsthand, it will be like some secondary experience, and for those, who are hundreds or millions times more, and who know nothing about this war, it will be some discovery; they will see what it looked like; how much grieve it brought; and how it all happened," said Faiziev.

"I made this movie as I felt it my heart. I tried to do it in such a manner that people watching this movie could clearly see that there is no enmity between our two nations. There is no particular motivation for a Georgian to hate an Ossetian, for an Ossetian to hate a Georgian, for a Russian to hate an Ossetian, and so on. I would like to make it clear that this was a collision of two military machines, which made simple little people to suffer," Mr Faiziev was sure.

The premiere, along with Faiziev, was visited by the Olympic Champion in Greco-Roman wrestling Khasan Baroev, who performed in the film the role of the Russian soldier named Ilya. For him, this role in the film was the debut.

Some eyewitnesses of those events have criticized the movie. "One feels some emptiness after watching 'August. The Eighth'... A glossy tale of the war... Accordion with dances in the refugee camp... Guys, this was a war!" the portal named "The 15th Region" gives the opinion of Timur Kusov, Chairman of the GTRK "Alania", who worked as a reporter during the war in South Ossetia.
