Wounded bodyguard of Abkhazian President is in coma

The health condition of Tengiz Pandariya, an employee of the personal security service of the President of Abkhazia, who was seriously wounded in his head at the attempt on President Alexander Ankvab, remains stable grave.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Nargiza Kharchilava, Chief Physician of the Republic's Hospital, that Tengiz Pandariya has an open craniocerebral injury. He underwent a complicated surgery and is now in the intensive care unit.

Ms Kharchilava has added that the patient is still in coma, from time to time he is connected to an artificial respiration unit.

So far, she said, it is difficult to make predictions: "We should wait and see the organism's reaction to this pathology; and further treatment will depend on the patient's condition."

The Prosecutor's Office of Abkhazia has opened a criminal case under three articles of the Criminal Code of Abkhazia: "encroachment on the life of a statesman aimed to stop his public and political activities, as well as a revenge for such activities", "an attempted murder of two or more persons in connection with their activities committed in a publicly dangerous manner" and "illegal acquisition, storage, transportation and carrying weapons, ammunition and explosive devices, committed by an organized group".

So far, there are no detained suspects of committing the crime.
