In Lermontov, more than 10 former local deputies go on hunger strike

In the city of Lermontov (Stavropol Territory), more than 10 former deputies and their supporters have gone on hunger strike, because they were not registered for participation in the elections to the City Council to be held on March 4.

"From today, we announce a hunger strike. Currently, there are 14 hunger-strikers. I think this is just the beginning. Among them, there are not only candidates but also their supporters," Valery Beloousov, a former deputy of the Lermontov City Council, said today, adding that representatives of all parties are among the hunger-strikers.

He said that the protesters are now in the foyer of the city administration, the "Interfax" reports.

According to their story, in the near future, more than ten other contenders, who were also rejected registration, are going to join them. According to the protesters, a hunger strike is the only way to attract attention of federal authorities to the political "lawlessness", which takes place in the city.

"We refuse to take food until federal authorities and investigatory bodies undertake a complete check of the lawlessness that reigns in the city," says the statement, disseminated by the participants of the termless hunger strike. The messages about the action have been already sent to the Russian President, Prime Minister, bosses of the Investigatory Committee and Prosecutor's Office, as well as to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Russia, the "FederalPress" writes.

So far, no comments of city authorities have arrived.
