Georgian Labourites demand to reduce tuition fees at universities

On February 10, in Tbilisi, members of the youth wing of the Labour Party of Georgia held a rally in front of the Ministry of Education demanding to reduce the tuition fees at universities. It was attended by several dozens of people.

As stated by the participants of the action, a high fee for higher education is a problem for virtually every student; and because of this many either cannot afford it whatsoever, or are forced to quit higher schools.

Young Labourites promise to hold actions until their demands are addressed, the "Georgia Online" reports.

Earlier, Labourites demanded to abolish tuition fees at universities at all. "To graduate from a higher school today costs from 5 to 20 thousand laris (3-12,500 US dollars); therefore, 50 percent of students cannot complete their studies.

"The Labour Party categorically demands to abolish fees for higher education and save the future talented generation," the Rus-press.ge quotes the statement made by Kakha Dzaganiya, the ideological secretary of the Labour Party in September 2011.
