A meeting of Ingushes in North Ossetia

On March 29, a meeting of protest took place in the village of Kartsa (an outskirt of Vladikavkaz). It was attended by residents of a number of settlements in Prigorodny district of North Ossetia who are relatives of Ingushes kidnapped at different time or missing.

The participants expressed their dissatisfaction with the fact that cases of kidnapping and disappearance of Ingush people had become more frequent on the territory of North Ossetia of late. They demanded that the authorities should take urgent measures to find their relatives and ensure safety of Ingushes residing in Prigorodny district.

The main reason for organizing this action was disappearance of Magomed Yandiyev, resident of the village of Kartsa, which occurred on Monday, March 27. The inter-regional public organization "Committee for Protecting the Rights of Forced Migrants" reports to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the incident occurred in the afternoon in Vladikavkaz.

"According to the available information, Yandiyev Magomed, aged 33, resident of Kartsa, disappeared under unknown circumstances in Vladikavkaz on Monday, March 27. His relatives state that he was seen at the Vladikavkaz bus station No. 2 about half past four. Some time later Magomed phoned home and managed to say that he was placed for checking into a VAZ-21010 of silver colour, after which the communication broke. Nothing is known about him since that moment. We have already informed representatives of a number of Russian and international human rights organizations on the incident. Unfortunately, we have failed to learn anything about Yandiyev's fate," reports Aslambek Apayev, head of the Committee for Protecting the Rights of Forced Migrants to the "Caucasian Knot".

According to the data of the "Memorial" human rights centre, three Ingushes disappeared on the territory of Prigorodny district in North Ossetia during the recent two months. The efforts to find their location undertaken by the law enforcement agencies have yielded no results, so far. Concerned by the present situation the local residents have organized a number of spontaneous meetings of protest.
