NGO holds action in support of the unemployed at the parliament of Georgia

The action "Empty Pots", organized by the NGO named "Union of Unemployed for Employment", was held near the building of parliament in Tbilisi.

The action was small. Its participants brought empty pans with them and banged on them with spoons. According to Alexander Shalamberidze, Secretary General of the "Free Georgia" Party, which is one of the founders of the Union, the organization is categorically demanding from the parliament to pay attention to the problem of unemployment and set up a special service to address this issue.

"We demand that unemployment is recognized at the legislative level - this will be the start towards solving this problem. We won't stop fighting until the parliament hears us," said Shalamberidze as quoted by the "News-Georgia".

Let us note here that according to a polling conducted in September 2011 by the US American National Democratic Institute (NDI), the problem of unemployment is the most pressing in Georgia. 62 percent of the population treats the inability to find a normal job as one of their main problems, the GHN Agency reports.

According to official data, the unemployment rate in the country is near 15 percent.

Meanwhile, according to the annual ranking named "Doing Business", which is compiled by the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation, in 2011, Georgia was ranked third in the world in terms of economic growth. Only Turkey and Estonia were ranked ahead it, taking the first and the second place respectively, the RBC (RosBusinessConsulting) reports.
