Villagers of Gimry to join rally against power agents' lawlessness in Dagestan

In Dagestan, residents of the village of Gimry plan to join the rally against the tyranny of power agents, which will be held on January 27 in Makhachkala.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a local resident Murad that, although earlier it had been declared that the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime in Gimry was cancelled, "in fact 'zachistkas' (cleansings) continue in the village."

"A checkpoint is still deployed at the entrance to the village; the curfew is still on; people are still afraid to go out and send their children to school. People in masks continue 'zachistkas'," said the source.

According to his story, over the last 2-3 days the village saw several fights, which were triggered by "cruel treatment and obscene language addressed by power agents to local residents."

"People are tired of what is happening in the district, because this situation is observed not only in Gimry, but in neighbouring villages of the Untsukul District; therefore they are going to take part on January 27 in the rally against power agents' lawlessness," the source has added.

According to a local resident, in the past two days a similar situation was observed also in the village of Gubden, Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan, where his relative lives. "He said about 'zachistkas' conducted in the village people in masks and camouflage," said the man.

However, the Security Council of Dagestan has refuted information about the actions of power agents in the villages of Gubden and Gimry. As explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Magomed Baachilov, Secretary of the Security Council, "the complex preventive operation in the Untsukul District and, in particular, in the village of Gimry was cancelled back on January 19."

Mr Baachilov did not confirm the information about 'zachistkas' and introduction of special regimes in the Karabudakhkent District.
