Official Tbilisi asks Azerbaijan and Turkey for help with arrest of Georgian women in Malaysia

The Georgia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) continues consultations with the Malaysian party concerning two Georgian citizens suspected of illegal drug trafficking. This was reported by Nino Kalandadze, Deputy Foreign Minister, who added that the Azerbaijani and Turkish parties were invited to help in tackling the issue.

According to Ms Kalandadze, the condition of the arrested women is normal; however, there is still no positive information about the trial. "Unfortunately, we have no information about the trial, which was postponed several times. The official Tbilisi cannot get involved in this process," Nino Kalandadze said at a press conference, as quoted by the "News-Georgia".

According to the MFA, "consultations on the issue continue to the extent possible." "We are actively taking the help of our colleagues from Azerbaijan and Turkey, and use our good-neighbourly relations on the diplomatic front," said Kalandadze, noting that the MFA is in active correspondence with law enforcement agencies and the MFA of Malaysia, the GHN reports.

The Georgian authorities have stated that they intend to fight for the lives of their compatriots and seek extradition of them.
