Relatives of Yerevan March 1, 2008, casualties express distrust in investigation and PACE

Relatives of the victims of mass riots on March 1, 2008, in Yerevan are dissatisfied with the course of the inquiry into the deaths of people on that day; the have stated that they do not trust both the investigators and Co-Rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

"Should the authorities have allowed, investigators would have long ago solved the murders; however, the former are not interested," Sargis Kloyan, father of one of the casualties in those events – Gor Kloyan – is sure.

Almost four years have expired after the murder, but investigators have failed with the main point – to find the killers, the father told reporters.

Sargis Kloyan expressed his distrust in the PACE's Co-Rapporteurs either: "We want to meet them and remind them that 10 murders are still unsolved. I'll tell about their guilt, when it becomes clear whether they'll meet victims' relatives or not."

Relatives of the victims of the events of March 1, 2008, have delivered a letter to the office of the Council of Europe with a demand to meet the Co-Rapporteurs John Prescott and Axel Fischer on January 16-17, when these gentlemen will be in Armenia to assess the implementation of PACE resolutions.

Gor Kloyan's mother Azatui Kloyan also stated that she was extremely disappointed with the outcomes of PACE's participation in the inquiry of the events of March 1, 2008.

"We've repeatedly met the PACE's Co-Rapporteurs, and they assured us that the murders will be solved. However, it turned out that all these were false promises. I am totally disappointed and have no more trust in the authorities and the Council of Europe," said Azatui Kloyan.
