Bus drivers in Nalchik go on strike

Starting from January 10, in the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, staff members of the municipal unitary enterprise "Nalchikavtobustrans" went on strike to protest against arrears on wages and poor working conditions. More than two hundred of city and intercity buses did not come to their routes.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by the strike committee that the protest action involved bus drivers and technical personnel of the company, about 500 people in total. Members of the strike committee, who preferred to remain anonymous for fear of their possible dismissal, stated that they had not received their wages for a year. The strikers are not satisfied with amounts of wages of ordinary workers 4500 roubles.

According to workers, the company failed to provide basic working conditions garages and units intended for bus maintenance and repair have no light and heating.

The strikers demand dismissal of Gisa Tavkeshev, the head of the company. "The director met us and promised to solve all problems; however, we do not longer believe him, since we are in this situation for a long time," state the strikers, according to whom, the director has created a comfortable working environment for himself and senior managers.

Alexei Vovk, the representative of the Nalchik City Prosecutor's Office, has reported that the fact of the strike is under investigation, and the decision will be made in accordance with its results.
