In Dagestan, power agents unblock Gimry village

Starting this morning, entry and exit to and from the village of Gimry of the Untsukul District are open; according to local residents, they were blocked by law enforcement agents and soldiers since January 9.

The message about blocking of the village came to the SMS-service of the "Caucasian Knot" on January 10. According to local residents, the village of Gimry was cordoned off by law enforcement agents and soldiers, and heavy military equipment was brought to the village.

"In the morning, we were allowed to exit and entry; however, in the very village, armed men in camouflage and masks go around households. Unlike in previous years, they behave politely and just check passports of all residents," Gadji Gadjidadaev, a local resident, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He has also added that in the vicinity of the village the power agents set up a tent camp with heavy military equipment, including tanks, and the surrounding heights are occupied by snipers. The power agents do not come into contact with the local residents. "We ask, what is happening and when they finish their operation, and in response we are told that they 'will leave only when the last militant is killed," a local resident has explained.

According to him, the residents of the village have no other information. "People are excited, and no provocations are excluded," Gadji Gadjidadaev has noted. He believes that the operation of the power agents can cause economic damage to the local residents. "Soon, it's time to gather persimmons, and who will do that, when soldiers are everywhere? And selling of persimmons is the main source of our income," he said.

In turn, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan does not have appropriate information about the ongoing events in Gimry.
